Looking back, I can see why it happened: We were all drowning in the same harmful patterns.

Breaking generational cycles often begins when we finally see the patterns that once kept our families stuck.

Trapped Inside the Jar

It was like being inside a jar with everyone else, unable to see the label from the inside.

None of us understood what was really influencing our reactions, our pain, or our distrust. And because we couldn’t see it, we couldn’t break free from it.

The Silver Lining

However, there was a redeeming factor—a silver lining.

That painful moment became a turning point in my life. It awakened a fierce determination in me to give my children a new legacy. Specifically, a legacy of love, trust, safety, and connection.

I wanted them to grow up with bonds that were deep and genuine. Not strained by suspicion or emotional debris from past generations.

The Switch That Flipped

Around that same time, I listened to a Harvard professor who said something that helped flip that switch in me:

“Most people don’t succeed because they become experts in their misery instead of experts in overcoming.”

That truth struck me to the core. Especially because I’d been told repeatedly in my early thirties that I didn’t love myself and needed to learn how.

It was frustrating that no one could explain how to do that. Meanwhile, my first husband was actively working to destroy me emotionally, and to turn our children against me.

Understanding the Cycle

What I didn’t know then was that he came from a deeply wounded background himself. His determination to inflict harm came from a place of pain he never acknowledged.

Hurting people hurt people. And yes, that meant I had my work cut out for me.

Breaking generational cycles requires compassion, responsibility, and the courage to choose a different story.

Searching for Answers

This was long before the Internet existed as the information highway we have today.

I was searching, learning, stumbling, and rebuilding from scratch. But it became the catalyst for transformational work. Not just for myself, but for others who needed guidance and hope.

Healing isn’t about digging up every detail from the past. Rather, it’s about taking personal responsibility to stop carrying what never belonged to you, whatever you are able to do, and choosing a better story going forward.

The Gift of a Mistake

That one mistake—the letter that blew up everything—became my doorway to growth, wisdom, and the legacy of love my children now get to live in.

Freedom began the moment I decided: This cycle ends with me.

The moment I committed to breaking generational cycles, freedom and a new legacy began.
