How to Access Your Alignment and Abundance
To understand why abundance can feel blocked, you first need to understand the four nervous system conditions that shape how you think, feel, respond, and receive. At a foundational level, your body is constantly scanning for one thing: am I safe, or am I in danger?
The answer to that question determines how you think, feel, and respond, and ultimately, what you are able to receive. While this is often simplified into three categories, there are actually four core nervous system conditions that shape your daily experience and your capacity for abundance.
The Four Nervous System Conditions Explained
1. Fight or Flight
This state is driven by urgency, pressure, fear of failure, and constant problem-solving. Life feels like survival mode, where rest feels unsafe and stillness feels unproductive. Your body is mobilized, either pushing forward in fight mode or trying to outrun pressure in flight mode.
Many high achievers live here without realizing it. From the outside, it can look like ambition, discipline, or drive. However, internally it often feels like anxiety, tension, and never being able to fully exhale. You can create in this state, but it’s usually from pressure, not peace.
2. Freeze or Shutdown
This state shows up as exhaustion, numbness, disconnection, or feeling stuck. Motivation disappears, hope feels distant, and life feels heavy or overwhelming. Instead of mobilizing energy, your system conserves it. This is what happens when stress has continued for too long without relief.
You’re not lazy. You’re not unmotivated. Rather, your system is overwhelmed and actively working to protect you by shutting things down. This is often where people land after prolonged disappointment, burnout, or emotional pain.
3. Accommodating (Fawn Response)
This is the state almost no one talks about, but it quietly shapes so many lives. Accommodating is when your nervous system seeks safety by prioritizing others over yourself. You become highly attuned to other people’s needs, moods, and expectations. You say yes when you mean no. You overextend, over-give, and over-function.
Peace becomes something you try to manage externally, by keeping others happy, avoiding conflict, or staying agreeable. From the outside, this can look like kindness or selflessness. Internally, however, it often comes with anxiety, resentment, and a growing disconnection from your own needs and truth.
In this state, abundance is difficult to receive because your energy is constantly redirected outward. Therefore, you’re not anchored in yourself, you’re adapting to everyone else.
4. Safe, Connected, and Creative
This is the state your body was built for, yet many people rarely experience it consistently. Here, your body feels safe enough to relax and fully engage with life. Clarity returns, your intuition becomes accessible, and creativity flows naturally. You feel present, grounded, and open.
You’re not in survival, you’re in connection. Furthermore, this is the only state where true abundance grows, emotionally, spiritually, and practically. Not because you’re forcing it, but because your system is finally open to receiving it.
How Nervous System States Affect Abundance
Most adults move between fight and freeze, occasionally passing through accommodating, without ever fully stabilizing in safety. They pray for peace while their body is braced for danger. They desire growth while their nervous system is scanning for threat.
Therefore, even when opportunities, love, or provision show up, they don’t land. Because abundance doesn’t respond to effort alone. It responds to safety. Until your body feels safe, expansion will feel risky, even when it’s good.
Safety Is a Spiritual Practice
Safety is not weakness, not complacency, and not a lack of faith. Instead, safety is what allows faith to become embodied. It creates the internal environment where trust can take root, where peace can settle, and where what you’ve been praying for can finally be received.
In the next post, we’ll explore why mindset alone doesn’t create lasting change, and how the body holds experiences that must be integrated, not bypassed. It may be the most important piece of this whole conversation.
